Spring Flower Cold Tolerance

How cold is too cold? Pansy and Viola flowers are known to be able to handle temperatures down to 26 F. Although those temperatures are rare in April, I would advise people to protect spring flowers if temperatures are going to fall below 28 F especially if windy.  Other spring flowers such as Snap Dragons, Allysum, Stock, and Dusty Miller can handle a light frost but don’t handle being froze down very well.  If the night time temperature is expected to fall below freezing for more than several hours I advise some kind of frost protection, but it is all depends on how much you are willing to gamble.
